ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability is a global network of more than 1,750 local and regional governments committed to sustainable urban development. Active in 100+ countries, we influence sustainability policy and drive local action for low emission, nature-based, equitable, resilient and circular development. Our Members and team of experts work together through peer exchange, partnerships and capacity building to create systemic change for urban sustainability.

The European Environment Agency (EEA) - in close collaboration with the European Environmental Information and Observation Network (EIONET) and its member countries, the EEA gathers data and produces assessments on a wide range of topics related to the environment. The marketplace stand will showcase material from our latest publications, including the European Climate Risk Assessment and Urban Adaptation report, as well as relevant platforms we continuously update, including Climate-ADAPT.

The Regions4Climate project aims to collaboratively develop and demonstrate a socially-just transition to climate resilience. Based on cross-sectoral roadmaps developed together with regional stakeholders, the project will create and implement innovations combining sociocultural, technological, digital, business, governance, and environmental solutions to reduce the vulnerability of European regions to the impacts of climate change.

REGILIENCE is committed to supporting the European Green Deal and the EU Mission Adaptation to Climate Change by fostering the adoption of regional climate resilience development pathways. The project develops, compiles, shares and promotes tools and scientific knowledge to support European regions in identifying and addressing their climate-related risks. We work closely with sister projects, such as ARSINOE, IMPETUS and TransformAr to enhance the capacity of 7 focus regions to tackle the unavoidable impacts of climate change.

Pathways2Resilience supports regions and communities in developing transformative solutions to foster their climate adaptation. It will allocate €21M in sub-grants via two open calls to support at least 100 European regions and communities to co-design locally-led pathways towards a climate-resilient future while providing them with support services and capacity-building activities. The Regional Resilience Journey, the adaptation framework developed by Pathways2Resilience, will guide regions and communities through different steps to accelerate their path toward climate resilience.

The EU Covenant of Mayors for climate and energy is an initiative supported by the European Commission bringing together thousands of local governments that want to secure a better future for their citizens. By joining, they voluntarily commit to implementing EU climate and energy objectives, working on climate mitigation, adaptation and energy poverty.
At the EURESFO marketplace, we will showcase the work, opportunities and resources for local authorities on climate adaptation, as well as promote our new campaign on heat decarbonisation in cities.

CARDIMED is aiming at creating a robust digital framework for assessing Nature-based Solutions' impact on climate resilience, alongside intuitive stakeholder engagement tools. This initiative aims to promote widespread adoption, validity, and financial sustainability through regional alliances and community-driven strategies.

LOCALISED presents the first version of the Climate Action Strategiser and gives the possibility to test it. The Climate Action Strategiser is a science-based tool focusing on how to better integrate mitigation and adaptation measures, and how to ensure a collaborative environment in local administrations of small and medium size. The tool is based on downscaled national decarbonisation trajectories, consistent with Europe’s net-zero target and can help in the establishment of Sustainable Energy and Climate Actions Plans (SECAPs) and the monitoring of related Sustainable Development Goals.

Adaptation AGORA is a Research Action funded by the Horizon Europe programme, that support the overall objectives of the Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change. It does so by leveraging and step forwarding best practices, innovative approaches, policy instruments and governance mechanisms to meaningfully and effectively engage communities and regions in climate actions, accelerating and upscaling adaptation process for building a climate resilient Europe. Adaptation AGORA will be featured in a stand focusing on citizen engagement and inclusion for climate adaptation, jointly organised with projects UrbanReLeaf and ACCTING.

RethinkAction project unites thirteen partners from nine countries, merging diverse expertise to craft a versatile decision-making platform which aims to provide concise, valuable information on climate change, enhancing awareness and appeal for land use-based mitigation and adaptation solutions. Focused on land use as a vital element in sustaining life and achieving climate-related objectives, the platform elucidates how individual lifestyle and societal behaviour changes can impact land use.

RescueME is a Research Action funded by the Horizon Europe programme, focusing on enhancing the resilience of coastal cultural landscapes in Europe. RescueME mobilizes resources, engages stakeholders, facilitates decision making, and enhances the implementation of co-created and just resilience solutions to protect our common heritage.

The European Regions Research and Innovation Network (ERRIN) is a well-known Brussels-based platform that gathers around 120 regional organisations from more than 20 European countries. Established in 2001, ERRIN supports members to enhance their regional and local research and innovation capacities and further develop their R&I ecosystems. The network maintains a long-standing relationship with the EU institutions and other organisations to strengthen the regional and local dimension in EU Research and Innovation policy and programmes.

Fully TCFD aligned, CDP holds the largest environmental database in the world, and CDP scores are widely used to drive investment and procurement decisions towards a zero carbon, sustainable and resilient economy.

The Urban Transitions Mission Centre (UTMC) is a global platform that promotes urban sustainability and facilitates climate-neutral transitions. The UTMC helps cities to bridge knowledge and capacity gaps by linking cities with policy, implementation, and funding solutions via exchanges that transcend national and world Regions’ borders. Building on the European Mission for Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities, the UTMC supports the activities of the Urban Transitions Mission of Mission Innovation.

The Driving Urban Transitions (DUT) Partnership is an intergovernmental research and innovation programme addressing critical challenges that cities face in terms of energy, circularity, and mobility. DUT partnership is committed to supporting national and european initiatives such as the European Mission of climate-neutral cities.
The Partnership launches annual calls for project proposals focusing on three thematic areas: Positive Energy Districts, the 15-minute City, and Circular Urban Economies.

CapaCITIES is a support action for national and regional authorities to advance their governance structures and strengthen dedicated support for cities to achieve the climate-neutral Cities Mission.

The EU-funded project EUCityCalc aims to support cities in achieving climate neutrality with the help of the innovative European City Calculator. This open-source webtool allows cities to visualise and simulate low-carbon scenarios to find the model that better suits their needs while saving time and money. It provides an easy-to-use interface enabling administrations and other stakeholders to assess the implications and trade-offs related to the implementation of mitigation measures in energy-relevant sectors (transport, industry, agriculture, buildings, etc.).

Energy Cities is a community of several hundreds of local and regional authority representatives across over 30 countries. The network gathers frontrunners and energy transition beginners, city officials and technical experts. Our community works hand in hand to boost green and climate transition starting from the local level.

WELLBASED is a European project funded under the HORIZON 2020 programme of the European Commission. The diverse team will design, implement and evaluate a comprehensive urban programme to significantly reduce energy poverty and its effects on the citizens health and wellbeing, built on evidence-based approaches in six pilot cities that represent not only different urban realities but also a diverse range of welfare and healthcare models.

UP2030 aims to support cities in driving the socio-technical transitions required to meet their climate neutrality targets by leveraging urban planning and design. Within the project city stakeholders and local authorities will be supported and guided to put neutrality on the map of their communities in day-to-day actions and strategic decisions. An innovative methodology (5UP-approach) will be developed and applied through the co-development and implementation of science-based - yet practical - tools, and methods.

In light of the increasing pressure on water resources worldwide, the integration of decentralized approaches into existing centralized infrastructure is essential for achieving sustainable, efficient, and affordable water resource management, increased water reuse, and establishing a circular water economy.
MULTISOURCE will demonstrate Nature-based Solutions for urban water treatment, storage, and reuse. The technical pilots will treat wide range of urban waters. Decision support tools will be co-designed together with local, national, and international stakeholders.

UITP supports the entire sector to ultimately guarantee that public transport and its workers continue to bring cities to life. The UPPER projects aims to spearhead a public transport revolution that will strengthen its role as the cornerstone of sustainable mobility and innovation in cities, ultimately leading the transition towards a future of zero-emission mobility.

Google's Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE) is a data and insights tool using exclusive data sources and modelling capabilities to help cities and regions measure emissions sources, run analyses and identify strategies to reduce emissions.

The EUCF is a European initiative to support municipalities/local authorities, their groupings, as well as local public entities aggregating municipalities/local authorities across Europe to develop investment concepts to accelerate investments in sustainable energy.

CrAFt helps cities and communities to become climate-positive - less greenhouse gas emissions, better quality, for more people - with local collaboration at the core. Building on the EU Cities Mission approach and in line with the principles of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) initiative, CrAFt envisions a future where radical collaboration across sectors, disciplines, and cultures is a catalyst for a profound transformation of our cities towards climate neutrality.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is the long-term lending institution of the European Union, owned by its Member States. It finances sound investment contributing to EU policy objectives. EIB projects bolster competitiveness, drive innovation, promote sustainable development, enhance social and territorial cohesion, and support a just and swift transition to climate neutrality. The EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change empowers European regions and local authorities to achieve climate resilience, aiming to guide at least 150 communities through understanding climate risks, developing pathways for preparation, and implementing innovative solutions by 2030.

URBREATH aims to develop, implement, demonstrate, validate and replicate a comprehensive urban revitalization methodology based on community and stakeholder participation focusing on greening and renaturing issues. This process will be supported by advanced technologies that the project will further develop and test. In fact, the project will use techniques such as local digital twins and artificial intelligence, and social innovation to achieve its vision. The climate neutrality paradigm is at the core of this methodology which aims at regenerating deprived and abandoned areas, brownfields and other problematic sites through physical transformations of the built environment and renaturing interventions that will radically enhance social interactions, inclusion, equitability and liveability in cities. To this end, URBREATH has identified the following specific objectives.

In the Re-Value partnership nine European waterfront cities and selected organisations seek to make the urban transition irresistible for local folks and professional stakeholders. We demonstrate how climate neutrality and urban quality can be aligned, by re-valuing the cities’ connection to their waterfronts, strengthening co-benefits and mitigating adverse impacts. By promoting transparent decision-making, harnessing technology and data, empowering communities, and prioritising sustainability, we aim to create cities that are climate neutral, socially inclusive and economically prosperous.

CLIMABOROUGH is a project, co-funded by the European Union and CINEA, with the ambition to bridge the gap between design and implementation of urban innovations, particularly in the face of climatic change and its consequential needs for adaptation and mitigation. CLIMABOROUGH is one of the 3 projects chosen by CINEA to work on Urban Planning and Design in the framework of the ‘100 Climate Neutral and Smart Cities‘ Mission.

CARTIF develops R&D projects and supports public entities (city councils, regional governments…) on high impact projects planning and development. For EURESFO marketplace we bring NEUTRALPATH project that paves the way towards climate-neutral cities through the development of positive and clean energy districts (PCEDs) and the co-design of efficient, climate-friendly solutions. By contributing to the European mission of achieving at least 100 climate-neutral and smart cities by 2030, it sets an example for other cities to replicate the process by 2050.

ELABORATOR is the European Living Lab on designing sustainable urban mobility towards climate-neutral cities. Funded by the Horizon Europe programme, the project aims to use a holistic approach for planning, designing, implementing and deploying specific innovations and interventions towards safe, inclusive and sustainable urban mobility. These interventions consist of smart enforcement tools, space redesign and dynamic allocation, shared services, and integration of active and green modes of transportation and will be demonstrated in six Lighthouse cities and six Follower cities. 

The ExPEDite project, a European funded project, aims to create and deploy a novel Digital Twin for real-time monitoring, visualization, and management of district-level energy flow. The ExPEDite project will deliver a suite of replicable modeling tools, allowing stakeholders to analyze planning actions towards positive energy and climate neutrality in a cost-effective manner. The tools will be able to model the district’s energy production and demand, building stock performance, optimize for flexibility and simulate mobility and transport.

The European Climate Pact is a movement of people united around a common cause, each taking steps in their own worlds to build a more sustainable Europe. Launched by the European Commission, the Pact is part of the European Green Deal and is helping the EU to meet its goal to become climate-neutral by 2050.

MOBILITIESforEU project aims to demonstrate that innovative passenger mobility and freight transport concepts designed and implemented following participative and user-centred principles are cost-effective and feasible solutions to contribute significantly to the cities’ transformation towards climate neutrality. 27 Innovative urban mobility solutions, embracing electrification, automation, and connectivity as central themes will be demonstrated in 11 pilot actions. lead and relication cities, Madrid, Dresden, Ioannina, Trenčin, Espoo, Gdansk and Sarajevo, represent the core of the project.

The SPINE project aims to create Smart & Integrated Public Transport for Everyone in European cities by integrating public transport with new mobility services like bike and car sharing, promoting active transport modes, and using small electric vehicles. It focuses on efficiency, sustainability, resilience, and inclusivity. Key aspects include equity-centered design, data-driven approach, and collaboration among 11 European cities to test and develop new mobility solutions. Successful innovations will be shared for wider adoption, ensuring smart, green, and inclusive urban transportation.

The metaCCAZE project, funded by the European Union,  aims to revolutionise mobility in European cities, serving both passengers and freight, with electric, automated, and connected solutions designed to make transportation smarter, and more efficient for all. In the streets of 4 trailblazer cities (Amsterdam, Munich, Limassol, and Tampere) metaCCAZE tests and demonstrates technologies that support shared zero-emission mobility solutions, contributing to climate neutrality. Successful technologies will be shared to 6 Follower Cities (Athens, Krakow, Gozo, Milan, Miskolc, and the Paris region).

JUST STREETS aims to transform cities’ car-centered mobility narratives that take for granted that streets are for motorized traffic only, promoting walking, cycling and other active modes of mobility. JUST STREETS will be re-shaping street infrastructure and changing individual mobility behavior in 12 cities, while sharing the generated “how-to-do-it” knowledge with hundreds of cities. A strong focus is on displaying how necessary transformations in the face of climate change can (and must) successfully improve social justice, accessibility, inclusivity, and security along the way.

REACHOUT is a European Commission funded research and innovation project to advance user-oriented climate services to support the implementation of the Green Deal. Research partners, climate service providers and city stakeholders are co-developing a coherent set of services for seven city hubs across the EU. These services support cities to Analyze impacts of climate change, formulate Ambitions for Climate Resilient Urban Development, and identify, evaluate and select adaptation Actions for implementations. This so-called Triple-A toolkit builds upon and utilizes existing tools and services.

The European Urban Initiative (EUI) is an instrument of the urban dimension of Cohesion policy. EUI is an essential tool to build capacity and knowledge, to support innovation and develop transferable and scalable innovative solutions to urban challenges of EU relevance.

Initiatives like the Green City Accord and the Green Capital and Green Leaf Awards encourage cities to address environmental challenges and showcase their environmental performance. The European Green Capital and Green Leaf awards recognise and reward annually the local efforts to improve the environment in big cities. The Green City Accord is a movement of European mayors aiming to make cities greener, cleaner and healthier. The Urban Nature Platform supports towns and cities in restoring nature and biodiversity. We at ASCEND are creating Positive Clean Energy Districts in Lyon and Munich, and aim to multiply them across Porto, Charleroi, Stockholm, Prague, Budapest, and Alba Iulia to make them a routine occurrence in cities across Europe. These new PCEDs are built to mitigate the effects of climate change and enable citizens to live in inclusive, resilient, and smart communities. They will address citizens' needs such as inclusiveness, social cohesion, livability and economic development, technical integration between systems triggered by the new energy system, and other easy-to-use solutions.

Making Cities Resilient 2030 is a global partnership that has mobilized more than 1,700 local governments, representing over 541 million people, committed to strengthening their disaster and climate resilience. 28 of these municipalities are recognized as Resilience Hubs – global leaders in disaster risk reduction (DRR). The partnership has also mobilized international organizations, national governments, private sector enterprises, academic organizations and NGOs. MCR2030 is a ‘who’s who’ of partners with unmatched expertise in and experience of supporting greater urban resilience.

GreenIn Cities aims to develop, test, and validate methodologies and tools aimed to operationalize collaborative climate mitigation and adaptation urban planning approaches and to co-create innovative “greening” and renaturing solutions for regeneration, repurposing, rehabilitation and pollution abatement in deprived areas. The main challenges that the project will tackle are improving societal readiness level and awareness of vulnerable groups living in deprived areas, including non-human health dimension, leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance co-creation process and maximise urban regeneration impacts. In the project are involved 5 front runner cities and 4 follower cities, which are mostly part of the selected pilots of the EU Mission “Climate-neutral and smart cities”.

TIPS4PED is funded under the HORIZON-MISS-2023-CIT-01 call. The project aims to design, develop, and test in a relevant environment the effectiveness and the techno-economic viability of a Digital Twin based Platform, to support municipalities in the implementation of Positive Energy Districts (PED). The TIPS4PED Platform will be able to support municipalities in the decision-making delivering a series of evidence-based results, increasing the environmental sustainability of cities, and reducing operational costs. The project will adopt a people-centric approach, which aims at engage, train and empower citizens and potential stakeholders.

CIVITAS is one of the flagship programmes helping the European Commission achieve its ambitious mobility and transport goals, and in turn those in the European Green Deal. It does this by acting as a network of cities, for cities, dedicated to sustainable urban mobility. Through peer exchange, networking and training, CIVITAS fosters political commitment and boosts collective expertise, equipping cities to put mobility at the centre of decarbonisation.

REALLOCATE transforms streets into inclusive, green, safe and future-proof urban spaces, where communities live and thrive. The project enables researchers, mobility experts,  urban planners and local citizens to collectively re-imagine our cities and redesign how we move from one place to another.

Regreeneration is a project bringing together nine European cities to reimagine their neighbourhoods as vibrant, sustainable and inclusive hubs for people and nature. By leveraging people-centric and nature-based design solutions supported by innovative technologies, the project helps shape cities that thrive amidst environmental uncertainties.
